Love Bomb

For the longest, I’ve been conflicted in what direction to take this blog.

I am considerably different than the man I was when I first introduced the blog in 2010. The man I was was generous and prepared to sacrifice. I was patient and willing to make myself a martyr in the name of love. For me, I believed there was magic in the universe and that the stars played a part in shaping everyone’s existence.

I was a fool.

That’s how one makes themselves vulnerable to a love bomb.

A lot has happened between then and now.

I find myself back to where I was long ago. After I left the military I discovered I was in a universe that had been, as Albert Camus once wrote, “suddenly divested of illusions and lights.” It was unfamiliar then and I struggled as a result. Because it’s no longer unfamiliar and I am older I have learned to thrive and have made peace with an absurd universe.

No illusions.

In doing so I have become expert in spotting bullshit and navigating my way around other people’s fuckery.

That’s the direction I’ll be taking this blog.

It will serve as a warning to those who are hopeless romantics and sentimental fools. I will examine how people can make each other into tools, if they buy into supernatural nonsense. As an example, I will use myself, who, at one time, was the biggest tool. At the start I will continue writing about the man I was, and, eventually, I will contrast it with who I am now.

This quote by the late Christopher Hitchens from his book, Letters to a Young Contrarian, sums me up best.

Beware the irrational, however seductive. Shun the ‘transcendent’ and all who invite you to subordinate or annihilate yourself. Distrust compassion; prefer dignity for yourself and others. Don’t be afraid to be thought arrogant or selfish. Picture all experts as if they were mammals. Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity. Seek out argument and disputation for their own sake; the grave will supply plenty of time for silence. Suspect your own motives, and all excuses. Do not live for others any more than you would expect others to live for you.

Therefore, if you’re one that blames mercury being in retrograde for whatever is going on in your life this blog is not for you.

However, if you want to learn how to make better choices, become more self-aware, and learn how to strengthen the signal and reduce the noise in your life, then, this blog is for you.
